STATE CERTIFIES WHITLEY COUNTY AS BROADBAND READY

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (Sept.30, 2019) –Whitley County was certified by the State of Indiana as a Broadband Ready Community.

The unincorporated areas of Whitley County in conjunction with the Whitley County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) completed the application process to certify as a Broadband Ready Community. Certification was granted from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and its Broadband Ready Communities Development Center.

The Whitley County Commissioners adopted an ordinance at their September 3, meeting and were recently notified of the certification.

“This certification sends a signal to the telecommunication industry that Whitley County is ready for broadband infrastructure investment,” said Kennedy St. George, Whitley County EDC director of marketing. “Broadband is just as important for economic success in the rural county areas as it is in the city and towns. Economic opportunities and quality of life will continue to improve with broadband infrastructure.”

The unincorporated areas of Whitley County join the town of Larwill as a Broadband Ready Community.

“As commissioners, we know broadband is important to the residents of Whitley County,” said George Schrumpf, Whitley County Commissioner Chairman. “We are proud to do our part to help communicate with investors that Whitley County has reduced the barriers for broadband infrastructure investment.”
